Ras Shiloh began his musical journey as a young performer in New York. During his childhood, he performed on the Golden Touch sound system under the name Big Belly Youth. His early exposure to sound-system culture gave him the opportunity to develop his vocal ability and learn from established figures within the reggae community. As his musical identity developed, he became increasingly influenced by the roots and culture movement in reggae.

In the mid-1990s, Ras Shiloh expanded his musical activities in Jamaica, where he worked with some of the island's respected producers and musicians. His recording sessions included work with Donovan Germain and Tony Rebel, producing songs such as “Child of a Slave” and “Are You Satisfied.”

One of his notable collaborations came with Buju Banton on “Give I Strength,” which appeared on Banton's Inna Heights album in 1997. The collaboration helped expose Ras Shiloh's powerful voice to an even wider reggae audience.
